(L to R: MGM Grand Macau President Bob Moon, Managing Director Pansy Ho, Ms. Daisy Ho)

The MGM Grand Macau unveiled their guardian lion today in a ceremony outside of the hotel. As we had predicted in a previous post, they announced a grand opening date. They did not announce a grand opening date for the hotel, however Bob Moon, President of MGM Grand Macau had this to say about the lion:

Welcome! We are all gathered here today to share a truly remarkable moment. I refer, of course, to the unveiling of the lion statue that will guard the entrance of MGM GRAND Macau.

Our new lion is the younger brother of the one that has been welcoming guests to MGM GRAND in Las Vegas for a decade. Cast in 1997, the MGM GRAND lion remains one of the largest bronze statues in the US. Today, we celebrate the unveiling of a similarly impressive lion statue. Standing an imposing 10-meter tall and tipping the scales at 63 tonnes, this eye-catching bronze lion is sure to become an instantly identifiable landmark in Macau. Our thanks go to its builder, the world renowned statue manufacturer in Nanjing who also cast Hong Kong’s gigantic bronze Buddha.

Ms. Pansy Ho also spoke about the lion:

The giant golden lion statue which you are about to see reveals our passion and dedication for the MGM GRAND Macau. From now on, the Lion and every one of us will together oversee this beautiful structure and the growth of Macau economy. At the same time, we hope that it will bring every guest a lucky and enjoyable experience.

No grand opening date yet. Hopefully soon.
