The Dramman Files: Mandarin Oriental II + One Residences Feb 2009
Photos and commentary by George 'Drambuie Man' Geddes, except as noted.
Mandarin Oriental / One
I do not know how related these projects are, or what the exact name will be (other then there already is a Mandarin Oriental hotel [next to the Sands Macao - Ed]). The construction is going on nicely, and surprisingly quick if you ask me. The building will have some impressive lake-view rooms.
[Taken from front of MGM Grand Macau, shooting west. The left building faces the bay between Macau 'proper' and Taipa. This tower is the Mandarin Oriental. The tower to the right is part of the One Residences (condos). Check out the angled window design feature rippling out from the bottom left of the M.O. - Ed]
[The building angles outward and bowes in the front ever so slightly. That's the Macau Tower and the Macau Taipa bridge in the back. - Ed]
[The bowed belly of the Mandarin Oriental is chiseled every so gently. Those are the other One Residence buildings in the back - blocking MGM Grand's view of the Lake and Macau Tower. - Ed]
[They still use bamboo for scaffolding there. Only Wynn uses metal scaffolding. - Ed]
[Check out the bamboo scaffolding on the left. They bend and bow that stuff to wrap around any shape and contour. - Ed]
